I pray that, if HOPE is not your church home, your search turns up a place that suits your wants and needs, so that all people may hear the message of God's love. HOPE has been exactly what my young family needs.
We leave every week's service saying "I feel like that message was meant for me," regardless of who is preaching. There are two things I would say to anyone who's had a less-than-amazing experience here:
2) They tell you up front in the membership class called "Discover HOPE" that this is a church of the people and you'll be expected to contribute as members. Volunteer - help in the nursery, direct traffic/parking, make coffee, whatever you can. It's so much more life-giving to contribute to the church experience.
1) It's a relatively large church, so a small group is an absolute must. Engage in a men's, women's, or couple's group with people in similar life stages. My wife and I are in a small group and I cannot explain how pivotal it has been for us and our walk with Christ.
It was my first time visiting Hope Church the members and the people made me feel like I was part of that family
Just here to pick up a newly Wed couple but the Lodge was a very nice facility for the occasion
Great landscaping, beautiful building and beautiful people: there is clearly a lot of money here... for instance: they have a present fundraiser shooting for 1000 $20 bills (though they do except lower denominations).
I'm writing this precisely because I don't think it's prudent to write this: as a recent college graduate, I honestly fear I may hurt my employment prospects by expressing this sentiment. While we've separated church and state, it's readily palpable in this building that we haven't as of yet managed to separate church and corporation...
One more thing: I didn't see a single minority here today. I hear they have a sister church downtown chock full of them though... I'm not going to say the "s" word, but if you didn't infer it from my earlier comments, pastel colors were in abundance -- the church is a vineyard vines catalog.
My wife and I began our search for a church home shortly after getting engaged, and HOPE was exactly what we needed. The staff collectively remains in active pursuit of marital nurture. David is a historian and his sermons are packed with context to match his message; Pete will move you to tears with his passion and love for God; my wife particularly likes Nicole's ability to engage with a female perspective; and Micah is a down-to-earth servant-leader.
Please do keep in mind I only attended one sermon, and am expressing nothing more then a first impression. And this is my first impression; it's worthy to note that my dad and I went together, his first time also I think, and he didn't get this impression at all. This probably will not be my last impression, I enjoyed the sermon.
All in all, a very corporate environment -- not that that's a bad thing per se; but it's probably safe-ish to say that CEOs will be comfortable here and hippies won't be. Oh, and they charge for coffee, but you can take it into the chapel.
I started a course at Fort Lee and began attending this church in May. I have enjoyed the experience and the messages presented by various pastors. Throughout the summer, it has not only been a blessing to me but also to other classmates that I invited and would join me regularly. The worship is genuine and despite the size of the church, there is at least someone at the entrance to greet you. We did not plug into other ministries so we did not meet anyone outside of our group in the church but we were OK with it as this was just a temporary thing. Thank you again for opening up your church and blessing us.
Just went today for the first time --entertaining sermon, good sermon. Though preacher did say the word "corporate" like 57 times during the sermon. For real though, he might have said corporate 7 or 8 different times.
